Red Mercian fixie

red mercian fixie

I spotted this beautiful Mercian bike last week – though for the life of me I can’t recall how I managed to stumble upon it now.

Lovely, all red fixie, even down to the toe clips and straps. You can see more photos of this bike over in this blokes flickr account.

Mercian Cycles are of course a Derby, UK based frame and custom cycle builders. You can read more about them by visiting their site where you’ll also be able to view a gallery of other Mercian bikes and their proud owners.

Bertelli Track Frameset

I stumbled upon the stunningly beautiful Bertelli track bike (pictured) via twitter recently. The almost monochrome finish to the bike looks stunning and this retro Titan stem looks great:

Produced by Bertelli in New York (website) using classic materials and offering retro, minimalist looks, these are aesthetically beautiful bicycles.

For more information about Titan stems take a look at Classic Lightweights.

SE DCx PK Ripper: Seriously Orange

se pk ripper

Woah! This fixie is seriously orange :)

It’s the 2010 SE DCx PK Ripper fixed wheel bike and it’s certainly a bike that won’t go unnoticed! But it’s a lovely bicycle featuring top quality components fitted on a retro styled, individually numbered frame.

SE Bikes was founded by one of the USA’s BMX pioneers Scot Breithaupt and as such the company has a rich cycling heritage. It’s a shame that the official website doesn’t include a completed history page but at least you can get a feel for this all-American specialist bike manufacturer.

Fortunately you can buy this bike in the UK at wiggle. Additionally, if you fancy the bike in a polished or black finish then Evans Cycle have got it in stock, currently at under £700 too.

Fix A Fixie Discount At Wiggle

felt dispatch

I’ve just received some jolly lovely Wiggle discount codes but you’ll have to be darn quick ‘cos they expire this very night (22nd April, 2010).

They’re tasty though… for instance you could save yourself £50 on the rather racy 2010 Felt Dispatch (which can be ridden in either fixie or single speed mode). The Felt Dispatch (pictured) has it’s heritage in track riding and Felt have added decent components to make the bike something rather zippy for the streets. A rather nice bicycle.

Take a look at all the single speed bikes at wiggle and use these discounts codes at checkout to save a few quid.

Affinity Metropolitan Bike

affinity metropolitan

Based in Brooklyn, New York, Affinity Cycles make some absolutely beautiful bikes. The one pictured is above is their Metropolitan and it’s a total stunner. Here’s what they’ve got to say about it:

Keirin inspired geometry mixed with Affinity original frame designs. Tested and beat to crap by NYC messengers and raced by national champions, The “Metro” frameset combines the race proven angles but also set up with brake holes for street use. A perfect bike to race, commute or ride as a single speed.

Like this? I do.

Ridgeback Solo 2009

ridgeback solo

Here’s a good deal from Evans Cycles! This 2009 Ridgeback Solo bike is discounted and is now only £449.99 so that’s way lower than the original £586.99 …gotta love getting a last years model.

This Ridgeback Solo is a practical single speeder for either winter training (because it’s got mudguards) or a straightforward commuter bike. Fitted with quality components and a precise build this bike will last for years and provide reliable service. Quality Alex rims on sealed Formula track hubs means this bike won’t suffer in the rain. Of course you could easily take the mudguards off if you don’t fancy them for the summer months.

Available in a range of frame sizes from 52cm up to 60cm.

London Fixed Wheel Bike #2

london fixie black

Following on from yesterday’s London fixed photo, here’s another fixie without any brakes. Frame clearances are much tighter on this bike and the front fork angle looks pretty tight to me so that’ll make for a racy ride.

Look at the classic Brooks saddle… retro leather with the brass studding (though Evans Cycles stock a complete range of Brooks saddle – see here). I’ve never been a fan of high riser handlebars, so the pair on this bike don’t do anything for me. There’s a lot of handlebar stem showing so there can’t be much left on that.

Moyer Fixed Wheel

moyer

I stumbled upon this photo of a Moyer fixed wheel bike yesterday and wanted to share it with you. Isn’t it a stunning looking bike?

Moyer appear to be based in Austin, Texas and whilst they have a website it doesn’t seem to do a great deal at the time of writing.

You can see more photos of Moyer bikes over at velospace.

Boardman Fixie Bike

boardman fixie

Former cycling ace Chris Boardman (and another Hoylake boy, like me) has followed in the footsteps or other Tour de France stage winners like Greg Lemond and developed a range of self-named bicycles.

Pictured above is the Boardman Road Bike Comp SC – a single speed bike with the option of fixed wheel (I presume it’s a flip flop hub). I love the high-gloss black finish as did an owner who reviewed the bike on Halfords:

The quality of the frame and finish is top notch with manipulated tubes, smooth welding and the paint job is the best I’ve seen on a bike.

The bike is kitted with good quality components from the likes of Truvativ, Ritchey and Mavic – again all in black to compliment the frame.

Available from Halfords in a range of frame sizes.

Trek District Bike

I spotted this Trek District single speeder (pictured above) in the Telegraph on Saturday. It’s a nice looking bike available in either vintage grey or green.

What’s slightly unusual about the bike is the drive train. Rather than having a chain the Trek uses a carbon-fibre belt. The belt is reinforced to prevent stretching and offers a particularly quite ride. The bike’s geometry is on the aggressive side so expect the ride to feel on the racy side.

I like the look of the bike and I think the grey finish looks pretty sleek. I can’t say I’m keen on the chain guard (well belt guard) so I think I’d take that off.
