The Telegraph reports that one of the Centre Parcs resorts has had to recruit a police officer after a spate of bike thefts. Suzanne Ashford’s role at Centre Parcs Elveden resort is being partly funded by the company in an attempt to deter cycle thieves.
Cycling is of course a popular activity at these forest based resorts and many of the 300,000 yearly visitors bring their own bikes. Police have confirmed that 362 bikes were stolen from the resort over the last two years, despite many of them being locked up outside chalets.
That’s a lot of stolen bikes! If you’re taking your own bike then maybe try and store it inside your chalet for extra security. Certainly ensure that you have a suitable cycle lock and that you securely lock your bike (by the bike frame, not a wheel) to a permanent fixing.
If you’ve been in the unfortunate position of having your bike stolen at a holiday resort please feel free to detail the circumstance by leaving a comment below.
